Gurn-Z Meadow resides at Bacon’s Rolling Acres, which is where Ed and Julie Bacon milk 120 cows and manage 800 acres of cropland. All feed that is fed to the herd is grown here, with the exception of a vitamin/mineral mix and robot pellet.

We are are committed to sustainable agriculture and collaborate with a team of agronomists to ensure the long-term health and vitality of the farm.

Sustainable farming

We’ve been using no-tillage for more than 20 years. We’ve also incorporated grassed waterways, diversified crop rotations, nutrient management, cover crops and barnyard runoff control into our management.

Cover crops and no-tillage work in tandem to provide more consistent yields, soil water-holding capacity and better weed control. All these conservation practices help improve soil health and keep soil erosion down.

Conservation practices

We believe in being good stewards of the soil. Regular soil tests are taken with commercial fertilizer and manure applied based on an annual nutrient management plan. Our typical crop rotation includes wheat, corn, soybeans and three years of alfalfa.

Everything we do is about taking care of our resources. We live here. It’s in our best interest to take care of our cattle and land.
